How should FCPS address the needs of students who are not college bound?

School should enthusiastically connect our students to education via their passions. Our students need to know that the skills they are learning each day have real world value that connects to the activities, causes and professions they care about.

To support our students who will be entering the workforce, military or a trade profession upon graduation, we should provide opportunities for them to obtain the necessary skills and certifications that will make them valuable assets to employers. Building off the successful pattern of our CTC program, we should identify cost-effective options for professional coursework certifications in every school. They could take the form of class electives, online courses or even after-school training hosted by local employers. It is important that the Board of Education champion policies that interconnect businesses, and professional trade groups with our students so that they are in position to make an impact on the world immediately upon graduation.

As a member of the Board of Education, I will actively engage the local, state, and national business community to ensure our students are given the best opportunity to stand out as leaders in Maryland, our nation and the world.
